Your first summer camping setup: a practical NZ checklist
Plan a comfortable summer campsite: compare tent space, packable chairs, tables and trolleys, and arrange Auckland pickup before your trip.

A comfortable campsite starts with a few practical choices: enough sleeping space, somewhere to sit, a stable table and a way to move your gear. If you are planning your first summer camping trip in New Zealand, use this checklist before you choose equipment. You can browse our camping range as you compare.
1. Choose tent space around your bedding
A tent’s advertised person count is a starting point. Measure the mattresses you plan to use and allow room for bags and access to the entrance. For families, separate sleeping areas can help organise the campsite, but check the actual floor plan and the dimensions of the size you select.
Our standard family tent has two bedrooms and a central living area. Its stated weather suitability is light to moderate rain; it is not intended for heavy or prolonged rainfall. The inflatable A-frame tent uses air-beam supports and has a 300 × 210cm footprint with a 200cm peak height. These are different layouts, so compare usable floor space and product-specific weather information before choosing. An inflatable structure describes how the tent is supported; it does not establish a weather rating.
2. Check the forecast and your campsite
Check the forecast close to departure and read your campsite’s rules and arrival information. Match the tent’s stated limitations to the conditions you expect. If you cannot find a specification such as a wind rating or waterproof rating, ask us before ordering rather than treating the product name as proof. Practise pitching and packing your tent at home so you know what is included and how much time you need.
3. Match chairs and tables to how you camp
A folding moon chair offers a deep seat for relaxing. Consider the seat height alongside your table, especially if the same setup will be used for meals. Our folding camping table has adjustable legs, so you can compare a lower seating position with a higher surface for preparation. Check the listed dimensions, folded size and weight against the space in your car.
4. Plan the walk from the car
Find out whether you can park beside your pitch or need to carry equipment. A folding trolley can help move chairs, bags and other gear across a campsite. Check its dimensions and stated load limit before using it, and consider the surface of the route. Large wheels do not guarantee easy travel on every beach or track.
5. Leave time for collection or delivery
MAG Living is based in Auckland, with pickup by arrangement in New Windsor. Check current stock on each product page and arrange collection before setting off. Use our delivery and pickup page to check your postcode. If it falls outside the listed delivery area, contact us for a quote and confirm timing before relying on an arrival date.
Your packing check
Before leaving, check the tent and its listed components, suitable bedding, chairs, table, lighting, water, food storage and the campsite booking details. Do a trial load of the car. Keep the equipment you need first easy to reach, and make sure you can repack it for the journey home.
